Reflections on Fieldwork

Books and articles in anthropology not only rely on the data and observations gathered during fieldwork; authors also use publication as an opportunity to reflect upon the experience of fieldwork. You can uncover these writings with appropriate keywords ("reflections" and "fieldwork" are a good start) in places like the database Anthrosource or on the library's catalogue, Catalyst.  You can also browse for "Perspective Articles" from the Annual Review of Anthropology

Beyond keywords, you can utilize the the following subject headings in Catalyst:

Ethnology -- Fieldwork

Anthropology -- Fieldwork

To search a subject heading, select Advanced Search on the library's homepage, then change the first drop down menu to Subject and enter your terms:

You can also choose to add additional keyword in the other open search field. Terms like "reflections" or "autobiography" are useful:

Images

Photographs, drawings, and other visual images of traditional and contemporary material culture are an important means of researching and describing cultures.
