Use Advanced Search!

  • Date range = 1770-1787
  • Keywords (full text): use olde tyme spellings (gaol vs jail vs prison)
  • Keywords: learn new keywords from semi-failed searches (prison!)
  • Try advanced search hacks, like...
    • Use quotes to search for "exact phrases"
    • ​wom*n = woman AND women
    • ?lave* = slave, slaves, slavery, flave, flaves, flavery, AND Flavell (the proper name)
  • Take EXTREMELY careful notes, and/or use Zotero!

Major collections (newspapers, pamphlets, letters, etc)

Full text can be fallible; also use subject searching!
Try the search term "US War of Independence"
Try using the "Article Type" or "Publication Location" facet to narrow your results!
