There are countless think tanks that you could look to for information about terrorism and counterterrorism. Most of these are easily accessible on the internet. Below is a small sampling of a few international affairs-focused organizations that also have portals or portions of their sites devoted to the analysis of terrorism.
- CSIS: Database of Legislation on the Definition of TerrorismCSIS has created a database of countries’ laws defining terrorism and penalties associated with committing or supporting acts of terrorism. This database includes counterterrorism legislation, anti-money laundering and combating financing of terrorism legislation, criminal codes, NGO laws, and any other relevant domestic legislation in place that has a bearing on the way that the country defines terrorism and punishes those responsible for terrorist acts.
- RAND Corporation: National Security & TerrorismRAND conducts a broad array of national security research for the U.S. Department of Defense and allied ministries of defense. Our federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) explore threat assessment, military acquisition, technology, recruitment and personnel management, counterinsurgency, intelligence, and readiness. RAND is a world leader in terrorism research.
- National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START)A research center focusing on causes and human consequences of terrorism in the United States and around the world based at the University of Maryland.
- Reiss Center on Law and SecurityA non-partisan multidisciplinary research institute at NYU established to focus on cultivating an informed dialogue and groundbreaking research on the most important national security, legal, and strategic issues of the post-9/11 era.
