Finding Community Organizations
- GuidestarSearch for financial and other information about nonprofit organizations, according to the criteria you set. Carleton does not subscribe but you can register and get a lot of information from Guidestar as a basic user.

A comprehensive set of U.S. and international directories to associations of all kinds. Good for finding similar organizations or organizations on a shared topic within a specific geography.
Find Organizations with Advanced Google Searching
Search on a topic with keywords then add to your search the following options (you can use them together or separately):
- site:.org - to only search websites in the .org domain
- filetype:pdf - to only bring up PDF documents. This is especially helpful to find annual reports of organizations
- site:.edu - to find resources posted to educational web sites. This is especially helpful for finding research organizations associated with universities
- "digital library" site:.edu - to find collections of primary documents such as pamphlets, posters, photos, letters, etc.
- site:.gov - to search only government agency web sites
- site:.mn.us - to search Minnesota state agency web sites
