How to use (and love) ILL

Want a book or journal article that isn't in Carleton's collection? Have you found something online that's prompting you for a password? Don't buy it! Make sure we don't have it in Carleton's collection, then, if not, request it through ILL. What's ILL? This short video will explain.

"Can I get this article?"

The authoritative source (besides talking to a librarian) on Carleton's journal subscriptions is the Journals List.  When you have identified a journal article that you want to read, follow the steps below.

Off-campus access

You can do a lot of library research from off campus.  You'll want to log into our proxy server first whenever you are planning to search library databases, our journals list, or some of the stuff in the Catalyst (ebooks, for instance).  Here are some other tips for using the library from off campus.

WorldCat

You may want to search for books at other libraries or see what they have in their collections.  This search is also a great way to brainstorm topic ideas because you get a good idea of the scope of research out there.  If you find a book you want that we don't have, request it through interlibrary loan.
