General research guide for the field of Sociology

Looking for Articles

Search these online indexes for journals featuring articles about your topic.

Usually, it's helpful to start a search experimenting with lots of different keywords about your topic.  Then, narrow your search once you have learned the distinct, precise subject headings each database uses.

Bibliographic Databases

Databases, indexes and abstracts give you an organized entry point into periodical literature. Carleton does not own every journal title indexed in the electronic databases the library offers. Check Catalyst (the library's catalog) to see if we own the journal title you are looking for. If we don't, take advantage of our Interlibrary Loan Services.

Core Sociology Databases

Use these disciplinary indexes to literature in the field of sociology and the broader social sciences as your core search tools.  Then use the more specialized indexes in the next section to home in on more focused collections of literature.

Specialized Databases

Use more specialized indexes to home in on more focused collections of literature.  There are more options on the electronic resources page.  Ask a librarian for assistance finding those most appropriate for your topic.
