Since the late 1990s, there have been a number of retreats for students of color to gather and talk off campus. The Women of Color Leadership Retreat seems to have been the first, forming around 1995. During the same period, Karios and the Office of Multicultural Affairs held a retreat for students of all backgrounds to discuss issues of diversity and community. A Men's Retreat was formed in 1996 after the Women's Retreat, to support men of color. In 2012, a retreat for men and women of color was held.

The scholarship group, Posse, has also held retreats for their students and student guests. These "PossePlus" retreats have been held in 2002, 2005, and 2017.
