Carleton College Archives: History of BIPOC Student Organizations at Carleton

Introduction

The Carleton College Archives contains an incomplete record of student organizations created to support, represent, or give voice to BIPOC students. The quality and depth of the materials vary from student group to student group. For some student groups, information is only available from published articles or accounts in publications such as the Carletonian student newspaper or the Algol yearbook. For other groups, records of the groups and activities may be found in a variety of collections such as the Dean of the College or the President’s Office records, manuscript collections of personal papers, or in unprocessed accessions.

The guide below is an attempt to provide an outline or overview of materials we hold and where they can be found. It is likely that this is an incomplete list that will be updated should additional materials be uncovered.

This guide was complied between 2021 and 2023 thus language, names, and dates are reflective of campus in this period.
