The Basics
These are some of the questions a lot of students have when getting started on major research projects like comps. Don't hesitate to ask me for more help with these or any other question you might have.
Off-Campus access
You can do a lot of library research from off campus. You'll want to log into our proxy server first whenever you are planning to search library databases, our journals list, or some of the stuff in Catalyst (ebooks, for instance). Here are some other tips for using the library from off campus.

A listing of all books (and more) in the Carleton and St. Olaf libraries. If a book is at St. Olaf, look for the option to request it. - WorldCat This link opens in a new window

(Searches through citation information)
Search for library materials, especially books, that Carleton may not have. You can include searches for articles if desired. When you find something you want, order it through ILL by clicking on the "Request item through InterLibrary Loan" link.
"Can I Get This Article?"
The authoritative source (besides talking to a librarian) on Carleton's journal subscriptions is the Journals List. When you have identified a journal article that you want to read, follow the steps below.
How to Use (and Love) ILL
Want a book or journal article that isn't in Carleton's collection? Have you found something online that's prompting you for a password? Don't buy it! Make sure we don't have it in Carleton's collection, then, if not, request it through ILL. What's ILL? This short video will explain.
