Libby has replaced OverDrive app

Update on the OverDrive & Libby apps

Attention, OverDrive app users! OverDrive has discontinued the legacy OverDrive app in 2023 and has transitioned users to the Libby app. Libby is OverDrive’s current app for browsing and enjoying digital content from our library.

Libby is a platform for Carleton students, faculty, and staff to download popular fiction and nonfiction eBooks and audiobooks to their personal devices. Content can be downloaded to many types of devices, including personal computers, eReaders, and smartphones.

  • For a list of supported devices, please see the "Compatible Devices" tab.
  • If you are looking for technical assistance, please see Libby's user help section.

Where can I find Libby?

You can still find a link to the library's OverDrive subscription on the "Databases" tab on the library website. It includes instructions for installing and setting up Libby. By linking to OverDrive through the library website, you ensure that you are using our subscription (and have downloading privileges non-subscribers lack).

A collection of popular fiction and non-fiction ebooks, readable online or downloadable to your mobile device.

Borrowing Materials

In order to check out and download material with Libby, you will need to have installed either the Libby app or Adobe Digital editions for use on your computer.

Libby is available to download from the Amazon App Store. Going forward, users with Amazon Fire tablets should download Libby directly from the Amazon Appstore instead of manually sideloading the app. Fire tablet users who already have the OverDrive app installed can continue to use it for now, but it is no longer in active development.

You will need your Carleton ID in order to check out materials.

Loan period

eBooks and audiobooks are available for a period of 21 days. You may also choose to check them out for 7 or 14 days.

Returning materials

Materials are automatically returned at the end of the loan period, so there are no late fees.

An item can be renewed up to three days before the end of the loan period, and can be renewed up to three times. Alternatively, a user can let the loan period end, then check the item out again if no other users have placed a hold.
